Yoga Retreat

There is a place in this world that not nearly enough people get to experience.  It is a place that fills my heart and nourishes my soul each time I return. During my most recent trip there,  I received the incredible gift of seeing my second home through my son’s eyes as he experienced, for the very first time, the beauty of the great white north… Whitehorse, Yukon.

From the moment he saw his first mountain to the moment he saw his first bald eagle flying free… Engaging with him as he experienced the indescribable majesty surrounding us as we canoed down the Yukon River, as we mindfully hiked over 10,000 steps through the Yukon Wildlife Preserve and as we listened to the drums and watched in awe a local cultural event celebrating the Tlingit people and their culture… I was humbled by his realization of just how small he was in comparison to all of this, and I was blessed with hearing him exclaim, “Wow!” and “Damn!” over and over again.

This has inspired me to create an opportunity for more people to see and experience the place and the culture that I hold dear to my heart. This yoga retreat to Whitehorse will be it’s own special kind of adventure and I have planned it just for you.

It is said that yoga is the union of opposition… strength and ease, breath and movement. This retreat is planned with that in mind. It will be about bringing a beautiful balance between rest and engagement, with a focus on slowing down from our everyday lives and creating a sense of mindfulness in all that we do… a living meditation in a sense, and by doing so, allowing you to build through practice and experience the skills that we all need to live healthier, happier, more balanced lives here at home on a daily basis.

I invite you to join me on this incredible adventure and allow me the honour of being not just one of your yoga and mindfulness instructors, but also allowing me the honour of being your guide as you discover the beauty of this sacred land.

Because we are staying in the heart of Whitehorse, you can easily access many of the local attractions, shops, and art galleries with just a short walk. You will have free time throughout the week and will have the opportunity to check out places like the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Center  and MacBride Museum.  If you’d like to wander a little further, feel free to catch a local taxi up to Yukon Interpretive Beringia Centre, out to the Takhini Hot Springs or up to the stunning Miles Canyon.

Now…   For one of the most important parts of any adventure – the food, of course!  I will be working closely with the hotel chef and local restaurants to create menus that are healthy and delicious. We are happy to do our best to accommodate different dietary choices and restrictions. Because we are in a place that honours the land and historically has lived off the land, we will be doing our best to do the same. There will be a chance to try some of the local cuisine… maybe elk or moose (this last trip I tried moose… it was delicious!) and definitely some sourdough bread or bannock.  This is a retreat that will surely keep both the omnivores and vegetarians/vegans happy. And for you coffee lovers….  Whitehorse does have it’s own coffee roastery and there are local shops that pride themselves on serving and/or selling the coffee from Bean North Coffee Roasting Co.
